Mind Mapping

visualize and structure information

Mind Mapping – The Swiss Army Knife for the Brain

Mind Mapping visualises, structures and organises complex information in such a way that it becomes easily accessible to the human mind. The method reduces complexity, a great benefit to all those who work with their brain. The result is an optimal information structure which enables the mind to quickly and effectively access all relevant information.

Mind Mapping is suitable for everyone who has to deal with information on a daily basis and needs to structure and organise their thoughts. The target groups for this method range from students to professionals. Mind Mapping works equally well for individuals and for teams.

Visual Preparation of Information

The method, which was developed by Tony Buzan, uses a radial structure to visualise information and ideas. Starting from a central idea which is centred on the page, the information grows out further and further towards the edges of the page like the branches of a tree. The method combines words, symbols, pictures, colours and the spatial location of information to create an informational structure that is fundamentally different from that of the traditional linear structure used in texts.

Mind Maps - easily accessible for the Human Mind

The structure and processes used for Mind Maps support the way our brains naturally function. The coding of the interconnections between a wide variety of elements and information (through words, pictures, colours and the spatial location of information) leads to a whole row of effects which modern psychology has shown to be very important for the human memory. The technique leads to an approach that fits the way the human mind works. This results in a more effective work process and better performance.

One Method – Various Possibilities

Mind Mapping is not tied to a certain method of realisation. Mind Maps can still be created with paper and pens – and in some cases they should – but they can also be created using any one of a number of software available on the market.
The best way to create a mind map depends on the situation. Far more important than the instrument used to create the map is understanding the method and being able to use the process.
